PsyClear’s Goal is Simple:

To connect physicians and patients with psychologists that provide efficient and accurate pre-surgical psychological evaluations. We understand that when surgery is needed it’s an important decision by the physician and patient. A psychological evaluation and clearance is often required by insurances prior to providing approval for the prescribed surgery. We strive to schedule you quickly so you can complete the evaluation and get one step closer to surgery without delay.

We Strive To Help You

PsyClear focuses on evaluations for Spinal Cord Stimulators, Intrathecal Pain Pumps and Bariatric Surgery.

We know that each patient and situation is unique so we strive to help you through the process as you consider your prescribed surgery. The psychological assessment will assist you and your physician in uncovering any barriers that would prevent you from having a successful surgery and outcome. Understanding your current health situation and why you have been recommended for surgery is important and we will help you navigate your decision.

What to expect?

There are a few steps required to accurately complete a pre-surgical psychological evaluation

Arrival

It should take approximately 1 hour of your time. We recommend arriving 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to complete the necessary paperwork and provide co-payment.

Assessment

The next step is to take a few assessments. These are standardized tests that help build the evaluation and help the psychologist better understand you. This step should take approximately 30 minutes.

Interview

Following the assessments, a patient interview will be conducted where your personal and health history are discussed. Your prescribed surgery will be discussed to ensure you understand what will occur.

The psychologist will then spend extra time separate from your interaction to evaluate the assessments and interview and will create a report for your physician to review. The goal is to complete the evaluation report within 48-hours and send it to your physician and/or your medical device representative if applicable.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why am I being asked to do a psychological evaluation?

Prior to certain surgeries it is required by insurances to perform a psychological assessment. The goal is to ensure the patient understands the prescribed surgery risks and benefits as well as uncover any barriers that would prevent a successful surgery and recovery. Having a surgery is an important decision and we want to help you navigate the decision. We know that there are many things that led up to needing surgery so there is a need to discuss those and ensure you are prepared for what is to come.

2. Will my insurance pay for this?

Typically, insurances will pay for the psychological assessments. Each plan and situation is different. PsyClear will seek authorization prior to performing the evaluation. PsyClear will then bill the insurance company for the services rendered. The portion of the charges that insurance does not pay may be the responsibility of the patient. Your insurance plan may also have a deductible and % copay.

3. I work during business hours during the week. Are there evening or weekend times available?

Yes, PsyClear works with your schedule and has availability during certain evening hours and some weekends. Availability will vary. In certain situations where you live far from the location certain insurances will allow a phone consultation.

4. How long will this take?

Most evaluations from start to finish will take 1 hour. This includes the pre-assessment tests and a clinical interview.

5. Is this a one-time occurrence?

Yes, this is typically a one-time evaluation. In situations where the psychologist does not recommend proceeding with surgery until certain issues can be resolved, it may be necessary to complete another evaluation in the future.
